EarthBound (マザー Mazā, MOTHER) series are three role-playing video games written by Shigesato Itoi and published by Nintendo. EarthBound Beginnings for the NES (MOTHER for the Famicom), EarthBound for the Super Nintendo (MOTHER2 for the Super Famicom), and Mother 3 for the Game Boy Advance.
The series is set a late 20th century Eagleland, and is known for its sense of humor, originality, and parody of the RPG genre. The protagonists use psychic powers (PSI) to fight the enemy.
Signature elements of the series include the lighthearted pots, the battle sequences with psychedelic backgrounds, and the "rolling HP meter" that lets fast players heal in the time the odometer takes to roll down.
